The IdeaLists Beta Celebrates Six Months: the Posts with the Most
It's been six months since our soft launch and as the site grows in membership and scope, we continue to see what’s working and what isn’t. One bit of “not working” feedback we get from people is that once an idea goes up, it’s not clear what happens to it.
While it's still a bit early to provide exact statistics, we can say that idea matches are being made with increasing frequency. Clients posting RFPs are hitting a 100% success rate, while creative ideas in need of collaborators or funding are hitting about a 40-50% success rate. And something that has caught us by pleasant surprise is the best responses seem to come in a matter of hours, not days. Furthermore, the closed network is paying off in that posts generally only receive a few, qualified responses (as opposed to the mounds you might expect otherwise).
So what happens after the match is made? It's our job is to make the best match, but after that it's up to you all to actually go on the date.
But if you still are curious where ideas go after being marked 'complete', here are a few of the more interesting examples (and we're only sharing partial info here to respect that these are works-in-progress):
Heath Ceramics wanted to make a short, Eames-inspired educational film about the life-cycle of a handmade product. Within a day they received responses from two talented young filmmakers (and their production companies) interested in collaborating.
MySpace posted an interest in creating an online radio station. Within a day, one of the industry's top ad agencies got in touch. And with a potential sponsor on board as well.
A blue chip client who chose to remain anonymous posted the need for a designer to travel to a one-day ideation meeting. Within an hour, two highly qualified responses came in.
Viacom posted a need for an unique campaign execution. We acted as agent to provide three options from outside their existing vendor network, allowing them to choose the one they liked best.
Shepard Fairey's team posted an interest in wall space around NYC to promote an upcoming gallery exhibit. A day later, a NY real estate developer got in touch saying he had a wall encircling an entire downtown Brooklyn block that was in need of beautification.
Partners & Spade posted their search for a digital agency to assist in the launch of a new apparel line. They are now working with arguably the best shop in the industry to build the brand around it's online presence.
If you get the sense these matches are all over the board, you're correct. Our aim is to serve as a democratic, level playing field that can offer interesting solutions to everyone from multi-national companies in need of a campaign to individuals looking for a wall to hang their art.
